Field of Philology

The Philology field focuses on strengthening the area of doctoral studies in philology and promoting new directions aligned with current national and international trends in philological research, with the aim of diversifying doctoral research.

It also aims to stimulate doctoral studies by promoting interdisciplinarity, internationalizing research activities through collaboration with renowned foreign experts, and fostering the development of doctoral students’ intellectual capacities, critical thinking, self-assessment skills, and research abilities, while encouraging their participation in relevant national and international academic events.

The professional and scientific quality of the doctoral supervisors in the field of Philology, their openness to international collaborations—including the coordination of joint PhD programs (co-tutelle)—as well as the available research infrastructure, are guarantees for the recognition of this field within the competitive landscape of advanced educational and research systems.

Proposed topics for admission (2025)

The funding status of each topic (scholarship-based budget, budget without scholarship, or tuition fee) is determined based on the admission competition, in accordance with the UVT methodology.

Admission

Admission consists of an oral examination in the form of an interview based on the research project.

The research project, written in Romanian or in the language in which the doctoral thesis will be developed (with the approval of the doctoral supervisor accepting the application), must include:

  1. A description of the research problem (context, motivation, relevance) and the research objectives
  2. A theoretical/conceptual/methodological framework
  3. A description of the study corpus (if applicable)
  4. A minimum relevant bibliography for the proposed research
