The Doctoral School of Music and Theatre within the West University of Timișoara is an Organizing Institution for Doctoral Studies (IOSUD-UVT).

For the doctoral field of Music, it has been operating since the 2015–2016 academic year in accordance with Law no. 1/2011 on National Education, the Doctoral Studies Code approved by Government Decision no. 681/2011, with subsequent amendments, and Order no. 5684/2015 issued by the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research regarding the approval of the Music doctoral field within the doctoral school organized by the West University of Timișoara.

Starting with the 2018–2019 academic year, following the validation by CNATDCU on July 18, 2018 and the provisions of OMEN Order no. 3353/2018, the Theatre and Performing Arts doctoral field was approved for establishment and operation within the doctoral school.

The Doctoral School of Music and Theatre under IOSUD-UVT offers doctoral candidates the option to pursue either a scientific doctorate or a professional doctorate, depending on their background within the Humanities and Arts fundamental field, in either scientific research or artistic creation in the fields of Music or Theatre and Performing Arts, respectively.
