Doctoral School of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science within the West University of Timișoara has gradually developed a complex and modern doctoral program that promotes scientifically validated research across a broad range of fundamental and applied fields. Initially focused on doctoral studies in Philosophy, Sociology, and Political Science, the school has since expanded to include new fields such as Social Work and Communication Sciences. The primary goal of the school is to promote excellence in advanced academic research and to generate new contributions to scientific knowledge in the respective disciplines. Doctoral studies can be pursued in either Romanian or English.

The main mission of the Doctoral School is to develop and promote high-performance research programs and to produce new knowledge in the fundamental and applied fields of philosophy, sociology, political science, social work, and communication sciences. The outcomes of these research programs are reflected in the advancement of theoretical and empirical knowledge, increased visibility and reputation of Romanian research in these areas both nationally and internationally, and in the enhancement of the quality of both teaching and research.
Additionally, the Doctoral School aims to foster high-level professional skills among its graduates, ensuring their swift integration into the labor market and enhancing their competitiveness at an international level. By offering programs also available in an international language, the Doctoral School contributes to the development of highly skilled professionals within the European Union in the targeted fields.
The Doctoral School encourages national and international co-supervised PhD studies, providing the opportunity for the academic process to be conducted in English. In doing so, the school promotes the recruitment of doctoral candidates from both Romania and abroad, offering a robust academic research environment in the areas of philosophy, sociology, political science, social work, and communication sciences, with specific expertise in post-totalitarian and Central-East European regional contexts.
