The plan includes both the courses selected from the curriculum corresponding to the doctoral field of study and the individual research pathway, which represents the most important component of the doctoral studies.

Individual Research Plan

The plan includes both the courses selected from the curriculum corresponding to the doctoral field of study and the individual research pathway, which represents the most important component of the doctoral studies.

In this section, two categories of activities are credited:

The individual research plan is updated annually, based on an evaluation conducted by the doctoral supervisor and the guidance and academic integrity committee, as well as according to the doctoral student’s needs.

Notes regarding the types of credited activities:

  • All doctoral students are required to accumulate a minimum of 30 ECTS/year for promotion (out of a total of 60 ECTS per year).

  • To maintain full tuition fee exemption and the UVT scholarship supplement, a minimum of 50 ECTS/year must be accumulated.

  • Doctoral students in the tuition-paying track but fully exempt from paying the fee must obtain a minimum of 6 ECTS/year from type II activities.

Financial support

UVT doctoral students who receive an individual scholarship may apply for a special scholarship, amounting to 50% of the individual scholarship included in the doctoral grant.

This scholarship is awarded:

  • until the public defense of the doctoral thesis, or

  • until the end of the fourth year of study (first extension year),

depending on which event occurs first.

The scholarship is conditional upon the acceptance, through contract, of additional obligations.

Additional Obligations

To benefit from the special scholarship, the doctoral student must fulfill the following:

  • Additional output indicators – one Web of Science publication (for humanities and arts fields, Scopus is also accepted). (See the Annex of the IOSUD-UVT Regulations for field-specific details.)
  • Full-time attendance regime – Active involvement in doctoral research and academic activities, allocating a minimum of 28 hours/week to doctoral activities and a maximum of 12 hours/week to other academic or support activities.
  • Commitment compliance – Failure to meet the agreed obligations regarding reports and the required number of ECTS credits will result in the termination of the scholarship. Failure to meet the additional output indicators may lead to the postponement of the thesis defense or, under certain conditions, repayment of the scholarship supplement.
Incompatibilities

The special scholarship is not compatible with holding a full-time position as a teaching or research assistant. Upon accepting such a position, the financial support is automatically suspended. However, part-time research assistant positions within research projects are allowed.
