- Application Process
- To secure a place in UVT dormitories for the upcoming academic year, students can apply through the UVT accommodation platform – cazare.uvt.ro, logging in with their institutional @e-uvt.ro account, by the annually announced deadline
- Each applicant must upload a copy of their ID card.
- Those applying for accommodation based on social criteria must also upload the required supporting documents.
- Dormitory Information
- UVT has student dormitories located both within the Timisoara Student Complex and outside of it.
- Rooms have 2, 3, 4, or 5 beds.
- Available facilities: internet connection, cable TV, washing machines, dryers, kitchens (shared or private, depending on the dormitory).

Scholarship
- Individual Study Scholarship (Granted for state-funded positions);
- UVT Special Scholarship
- Doctoral students admitted to a state-funded position with an individual scholarship can request additional funding.
- The supplement amounts to 50% of the scholarship value included in the doctoral grant.
- It is awarded in exchange for meeting additional requirements regarding the completion of studies and carrying out additional full-time activities as stipulated in the doctoral studies contract.
- Scholarship for “Romanians Everywhere” Doctoral Students
- Established by Government Decision 1653/2024;
- The amount is set at the minimum level of the UVT social scholarship (~200 USD).
- Scholarship for Non-EU Citizens
- Granted only to those who receive a Romanian State Scholarship;
- Approximate value: 200 USD.
Medical Assistance
All UVT students are eligible for free medical services if they are up to 26 years old.

100% refund of the first-year tuition fee.
Tuition fee exemption for subsequent years.
Available for a limited number of students, with priority given to those in the fields of exact sciences and natural sciences.

Financial Support for Doctoral Activities
Annually Allocated Budget (20% of the total value of doctoral grants)
- Used for:
- Resources for research activities (consumables, subscriptions, services, etc.)
- National and international mobilities (conferences, short training stages)
- Expenses for publishing open access articles
- Availability:
- First two categories → for doctoral students in training (first 4 years)
- Article publication → also for doctoral students in extension (with state-budgeted places)
- Request Procedure:
- A justification memorandum must be filled out and accompanied by supporting documents.
- Documents are submitted to the CSUD secretariat for verification and approval.

Overview of the Admission Process
Before Applying
Before the application period, it is recommended to:
- Review the admission methodology and calendar for the corresponding academic year.
- Obtain and prepare the required documents for application.
- Contact a PhD supervisor early for guidance on writing a strong research proposal for the admission exam (if required, based on the recommendations included in the admission methodology).
Application Process
Romanian/EU/EEA Citizens
Admission platform (link)
The application file must be uploaded to the platform provided by the West University of Timișoara and should include the following documents:
- Application Form (Annex 2 – link) signed by the applicant and PhD supervisor.
- Birth certificate.
- Marriage certificate or name change document (if applicable).
- National ID card.
- High school diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree diploma.
- Transcript or diploma supplement for the bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s degree diploma or equivalent.
- Transcript or diploma supplement for the master’s degree (or completion certificate for recent graduates).
- B2 language proficiency certificate in an international language (English, French, German – the option for another language must be justified based on the research project).
- Curriculum vitae.
- Additional documents requested by doctoral schools, depending on the research field (i.e., research proposal, if required).
Notes:
- Candidates (Romanian citizens and EU citizens) who have completed studies abroad must present a certificate of equivalency issued by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED), under the Ministry of Education.
- More details about the equivalency process and the required documents can be found on the CNRED website: www.cnred.edu.ro
- Those who do not have the recognition of their studies at the time of submitting their admission documents must provide a declaration stating their commitment to submit the certificate within a maximum period of one year.
Romanians Abroad (Romanians from Everywhere)
Required documents:
- Enrollment Form (standard form Annex 3 – link);
- Birth Certificate – copy and authorized translation (if applicable) in Romanian or an internationally recognized language;
- Marriage Certificate – copy and authorized translation (if applicable);
- Medical Certificate (issued in Romania or the country of origin) – copy and authorized translation (if applicable) – the certificate must confirm that the candidate is fit for higher education and participation in an academic environment, without suffering from contagious diseases;
- Diplomas/Study Documents: high school diploma or equivalent, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree (or equivalent), transcripts for completed study cycles – copies and authorized translations (if applicable) in Romanian or an internationally recognized language;
- Declaration on Own Responsibility which states that the candidate does not hold a Romanian identity card/passport, notarized;
- Declaration of Belonging to Romanian Cultural Identity, except for the Republic of Moldova;
- Proof of Romanian Language Study, issued by an accredited educational institution in the country of origin or by Romanian diplomatic missions in that country;
- Personal Data Form: address, email address, phone number;
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Language Proficiency Certificate (minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in an internationally recognized language (English, French, German – another language must be justified based on the research project specifics) (see details);
- Other documents requested by doctoral schools, depending on the research field (i.e., research proposal, if required).
Non-EU Citizens/Third-country nationals
Required documents:
- Application for the Letter of Acceptance to Studies (standard form Annex 6 – link);
- Diplomas / Educational documents:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Bachelor’s degree diploma;
- Master’s degree diploma (or equivalent);
- Transcripts for all completed study cycles;
→ All documents must be submitted as copies and certified translations in Romanian or in an internationally used language. - Certificate attesting the completion of the master’s degree (for current year graduates) – copy and certified translation;
- Birth certificate – copy and certified translation;
- Language proficiency certificate – minimum level B2;
- Copy of passport – valid for at least 6 months from the date of issuance of the Letter of Acceptance for studies;
- Medical certificate – in Romanian or in an internationally used language, attesting:
- Absence of contagious diseases;
- No other conditions incompatible with the future profession;
- Marriage certificate (if applicable) – to justify a name change;
- Copy of the document attesting permanent residence abroad;
- Certificate of completion of the Romanian Language Preparatory Year;
- Personal data form: address, email address, phone number;
- Proof of payment of the €100 fee – application processing fee;
- Curriculum Vitae (CV);
- Doctoral supervisor’s agreement for coordination;
- Affidavit (declaration on own responsibility);
- Other documents considered relevant by the doctoral schools (e.g., research project – if applicable).

Important Notes
- Incomplete applications must be completed by the candidate no later than the registration deadline.
- Exception: The B2 language proficiency certificate is administratively recognized if the candidate has completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program in an internationally recognized language, explicitly mentioned in the diploma or accompanying documents.
- Regarding Romanian Language Proficiency: A Preparatory Year completion certificate in Romanian or an equivalent (language proficiency certificate) is required, except if the doctoral program is conducted exclusively in an internationally recognized language.
Joint Supervision Doctorate (Cotutelle) – UNITA
The PhD admission file for these candidates must be uploaded on the platform provided by the West University of Timisoara and includes the following documents:
- Enrollment Form (standard form Annex 2 – link) signed by the candidate, the PhD supervisor from WUT, and the cotutelle supervisor who has agreed to propose a joint research project for the 2024 session;
- Birth Certificate;
- Marriage Certificate or Document Certifying Name Change (if applicable);
- Identity Card;
- High School Diploma;
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- Bachelor’s Transcript or Diploma Supplement;
- Master’s Degree or Equivalent;
- Master’s Transcript or Diploma Supplement, or Certificate Confirming Completion of a Master’s for Current-Year Graduates;
- Curriculum Vitae and Scientific Activity Portfolio;
- Language Proficiency Certificate (minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in an internationally recognized language (English, French) or one of the UNITA Alliance languages (Italian, Spanish, Portuguese);
- Doctoral Research Proposal, related to the selected project (maximum 3 pages).
Language Proficiency
Enrollment in doctoral studies requires proof of a language proficiency certificate (minimum B2 level) for both Romanian and foreign citizens. In the case of foreign citizens, completing a preparatory year in Romanian is also a requirement (see the exception below).
Here are the requirements according to the categories of candidates:
- Romanian or foreign citizens
- B2 language proficiency certificate (in English, French, German, or another language relevant to the research).
- Exception: The language proficiency certificate requirement does not apply if the candidate has completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral program in a recognized international language, and this is explicitly stated on the diploma or accompanying documents.
- Foreign citizens
- If the studies are conducted in Romanian: Certificate of completion of the Preparatory Year or an equivalent certificate.
- Exception: This is not required if the doctoral program is conducted entirely in an international language or if the candidate can prove that they have completed any previous cycle of studies (high school, Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.) in Romanian.
Recommendation:
Please consult with your PhD supervisor, doctoral school directors, or members of the Doctoral School Council (CSUD) to determine whether it is possible to carry out your entire doctoral program in an international language in order to avoid the preparatory year if you do not speak Romanian.
Types of Recognized Language Proficiency Certificates
- An internationally recognized certificate (e.g., Cambridge, DALF, etc.)
or - A certificate issued by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures within the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology (FLIT), or by other departments with specialized staff at West University of Timișoara (e.g., Faculty of Law or Faculty of Economics and Business Administration).

Admission Process
Candidates who register via the online platform will receive notifications about their application status, the admission competition format, topics, and bibliography for each doctoral school.

Post-Admission Administrative Process
- Document Authentication (For enrollment, admitted candidates must provide original documents for verification at the Doctoral Studies Office)
- Submission of the Master’s Diploma (Candidates admitted to state-funded places must submit the original master’s diploma, or a certificate for those who passed the dissertation exam in the current year, to the Doctoral Studies Office. Failure to submit original documents results in the loss of the admission spot)
Enrollment Fee Payment, Depending on Admission Type:
- Confirmation Fee Payment (all admitted students);
- Enrollment (all admitted students) and Tuition Fee Payment (10% of the tuition fee, only fee-based students);
- Signing and Submitting the Study Contract, Individual Doctoral Study Plan, and other required documents in original form to the Doctoral Studies Office.
